The community of Sandia Heights addressed various concerns in the March 2008 newsletters. The President emphasized the importance of enforcing covenants and guidelines, particularly regarding safety on roads and the need for speed control measures like speed bumps. Residents were urged to be patient, considerate, and work together to create a safer environment for all, whether drivers or pedestrians. Additionally, legal expenses and responsibilities regarding common areas were discussed, highlighting individual homeowner responsibility for repairs in most cases and the limited common areas in the community.
The newsletters also featured updates on association finances, including cash flow and account balances. The treasurer's report detailed inflow and outflow, providing transparency on where funds were allocated. Another highlight was the call for volunteers to join the Sandia Heights Homeowners Association (SHHA) Board and assist in maintaining the community's quality of life and character. The newsletter covers various architectural projects approved within the Sandia Heights community, including patio construction, HVAC unit replacements, fence installations, and roof replacements among others. Additionally, it highlights the benefits of being a member of the Sandia Heights Homeowners Association (SHHA), such as access to the SHHA Directory of Residents, free ACC application processing, and perks like free Sandia Peak Tramway passes and admission to the Sandia Heights Coffeehouse Concert Series. The document also addresses recycling options in the Northeast Heights and encourages residents to be environmentally conscientious by utilizing nearby drop-off centers for glass, paper, tin, aluminum, and plastic recycling.
Moving on from architectural project approvals and SHHA membership benefits, the newsletter addresses concerns about vandalism in the community and presents a letter reporting instances of theft of 'For Sale' signs from a vacant lot. It also informs residents about upcoming changes to the Bernalillo County Animal Ordinance and urges support for further improvements to protect against negative impacts of irresponsible pet ownership. Lastly, community event announcements are made, including activities organized by groups like SOSH - Singles of Sandia Heights, the Church of the Good Shepherd Preschool's "Spring Fling" fundraiser, the Sandia Heights Wildflower Club meetings featuring guest speakers and upcoming events like a Progressive Dinner and Garden Walk, and a Sweet Jazz fundraiser benefiting the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
