The August 2005 newsletter begins with a message from the President, Ed Whitten, highlighting the recent W. L. Jackson park/artwork dedication event and the first Board of Directors meeting with newly elected officers. There was a significant discussion at the meeting regarding proposed speed humps on Tramway Lane and clarification provided on the status of the Unified Covenants. The Membership and Community Service Corner featured upcoming events like Jazz Nite Under the Stars and an Antique and Classic Car Show, as well as a successful SHHA picnic with various activities and games for residents. The Treasurer's Report detailed the association's cash flow, expenses, and assets for June, listing out various committee expenses and office-related costs.
The newsletter also covered traffic, safety, and environmental updates, emphasizing the Board's support for resident-led initiatives in enhancing safety, such as speed humps. A multi-pronged approach to safety was outlined, including the creation of pathways and the installation of speed humps based on community feedback. The Covenant Support Committee highlighted changes in covenant enforcement procedures and the benefits of the proposed Unified Covenants, emphasizing property value maintenance, harmonious architecture, and legal clarity. Lastly, a section on bear safety provided guidelines for residents to secure their properties and prevent bear intrusions in the neighborhood. The final section discussed recent community activities like a garden tour and a lavender faire field trip, inviting new members to join the Sandia Heights Wildflower Club.
A revitalization project at the Quail Run Center includes a new parking lot, exterior lighting improvements, and rebuilding of signage to enhance the businesses located there. The renovation, led by experienced real estate renovators Kelvin and Dan Rich, aims to create a welcoming community gathering space where local residents and passersby can enjoy. Additionally, the newsletter addresses a persistent low-frequency hum that has been troubling residents of Sandia Heights for the past five years, with potential causes ranging from underground operations to microwave transmissions and cable installations. Efforts by residents and authorities to pinpoint and resolve the source of the hum have so far been inconclusive.
