The August 2024 newsletter from Sandia Heights features various committee updates and community events. The Covenant Support Committee led by Art Romero is commended for diligently handling complaints, while Elizabeth Edgren's Community Service and Membership Committee is praised for organizing a successful shredding event. Concerns about dogs not being leashed in pocket parks are raised, emphasizing the importance of following park rules for safety. Additionally, an upcoming discussion at the Albuquerque City Council regarding e-bikes and micromobility devices in open spaces is highlighted, with safety and regulatory details provided for residents to consider.
The newsletter discusses the archaeological findings in the Jaral Canyon area, suggesting that the pottery found there had various origins including the Rio Grande Valley and Galisteo Basin. The article mentions the historical significance of Jaral Canyon, serving as a refuge during conflicts such as the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Additionally, the decline in Jaral ceramics' quality is attributed to population stress from Spanish occupation, potentially leading to the loss of pottery-making skills.
Other sections of the newsletter include a letter from a dog owner urging caution during walks to protect pets' paws from asphalt heat, a call for volunteers to join the Communication and Publication Committee, updates on community events like the "Cork & Fork" dining activity and fall bridge classes, information on a local generator expert service, a successful shredding event organized by the Community Service & Membership Committee, and a spotlight on a young Sandia Heights resident's journey in scouting. The newsletter also features an activity log summarizing approved projects, a real estate market update, and a showcase of the wildlife nightlife in Sandia Heights. Keywords: Jaral Canyon, pottery origins, Pueblo Revolt, pet safety, volunteer opportunity, community events, generator service, shredding event, scouting, real estate market, wildlife sightings.
The Publications Committee is inviting residents to share photos of their seasonal garden displays with the community. Whether it's a vibrant summer garden, a picturesque fall scene, a winter wonderland, or the awakening colors of spring, they encourage residents to submit their gardening achievements to the SHHA office for possible publication. In other news, the Covenant Support Violations report as of June 31, 2024, shows 12 violations received, 14 still open, and 3 successfully closed, which included issues such as improper trash can storage, excessive outdoor lighting, and unauthorized short-term rentals.
