The newsletter from June - July 2004 provides updates on the Sandia Heights Homeowners Association (SHHA) activities, including legal efforts to maintain neighborhood quality, establishment of new by-laws, committee charters, and orientation sessions for board members. The Treasurer's report highlights financial achievements, increased membership dues, and successful events like the Wine Tasting. A call to address speeding issues and safety concerns with the Fire Marshal is also emphasized by the Traffic and Safety Committee. Additionally, progress is reported on the W.L. Jackson Park cleanup and construction, reflecting community involvement and support.
The recent developments in the Sandia Heights area include the sale of the northern half of a property to Matt Musgrave and George Burnell for the construction of an Albuquerque Kwik Lube. Updates on the Eckerd Building include the successful removal of triangular cupolas and plans for a uniform southwest-style paint job, possibly to attract Ace Hardware as a tenant. Efforts are also underway to discuss implementing an "overlay" plan for any future commercial development along Tramway to involve the neighborhood in the development process, particularly focusing on three undeveloped commercial properties in the area.
A new initiative presented in the newsletter involves the establishment of an Internet Forum for Sandia Heights homeowners to discuss and debate community issues. The forum aims to provide a platform for open communication among residents, with plans for format establishment, topic discussions, and beta-testing in progress. Residents are encouraged to participate in the testing phase by providing their email addresses to the SHHA office for forum access, with the ultimate decision on full implementation resting with the SHHA Board of Directors.
