Futures for Children will be joining the Sandia Heights community, as announced in the newsletter. The SHHA Annual Members' Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 1983, at the Norte Fire Station. The meeting will include the election of new Board members and reports from various committees, along with financial updates from the Treasurer. Residents are encouraged to get involved in the decision-making process by nominating candidates for the SHHA Board of Directors and attending the upcoming meeting to cast their votes.
The Sandia Heights Homeowners Association is seeking nominees for the upcoming Board of Directors elections. Members are reminded to attend the annual meeting on June 5, 1983, where new Board members will be elected. In other community news, there was recognition for former County Commissioner Patricia Cassidy at the YWCA's Women on the Move Awards Dinner. Additionally, a Clothes Collection Drive is underway to benefit those in need, and information about the draft Ground Water Protection Policy and Action Plan for Sandia Heights was shared. The newsletter also highlighted updates on community events such as the Annual Spring Fling and the upcoming October Crafts Bazaar.
Sandia Heights Park hosted a fun-filled day following the annual meeting, with a menu featuring hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by local officials and various activities such as baseball, relay races, volleyball, basketball, face painting, and giveaways. There was also a security report urging residents to subscribe to security services to preserve the safety of the neighborhood, including tips on safeguarding homes while on vacation. Updates on the San Bernadino Trailhead Tramway Park were positive, highlighting collaborative efforts to transform the area into a scenic park with improved access to the Tramway Trail for residents to enjoy.
A discussion on the invasive plant species Tamarisk was outlined, addressing its impact on the environment and efforts to control its spread, including insights on its potential use as firewood. The Covenant Support Committee emphasized a collaborative approach to uphold neighborhood standards, mediating neighbor disputes and enforcing covenants when necessary. The legislative session summary touched on healthcare legislation, DWI laws, tax increases, education reforms, and other key initiatives undertaken by state representatives and senators.
Residents are being encouraged to provide input and respond to various matters affecting the community, such as drainage issues and road designations. Representatives from different associations and entities met to address concerns, with ongoing studies and reviews for proposed plans and expenditures. The community is urged to stay informed about developments and participate in decision-making processes to shape the future of Sandia Heights.
