Summary of July 2025 GRIT

This issue is a special issue commemorating the 50th year anniversary of the signing of the original Certificate of Incorporation of the Sandia Heights Homeowners Association. In the regular “Message from the President”, Jim Stewart, notes this fact and wishes everyone a happy Fourth of July. The issue starts out with “Meditation on the Bridge at Concord” written by Sandia Heights 40-year resident, Lawrence Fultz and originally published in the July 2013 issue of the GRIT. With this issue, the ACC activity log has begun including the Disapproved Projects as well as the Approved Projects. The keynote article of the issue was submitted by the Communications and Publications Committee. It is a three-part article. Part One notes that the SHHA original Articles of Incorporation were signed by the Chairman of the State Corporation Commission, Floyd Cross, in Santa Fe on July 25, 1975. Part Two gives a brief list of world and local events in July 1975. Part Three is the main section of the feature article with residents’ memories and anecdotes from around 1975. It includes several photos of Sandia Heights at that time. The residents quoted include: Judge Jonathan Sutin, ret., resident since 1972; Ann List, resident since 1972; Bill and Laurie Johnson, resident since 1978; Christine Swayden, resident since 1976; Terry Walker, resident since 1977; Allison Johnson Kane, resident since 1968; Guy Jackson, resident since 1968. The final section of the article thanks the members of the Communication and Publications Committee members and chair ( Claudia Mitchell, chair; Ann List, Burt O’Neil, Terry Walker, Merrilea Mayo, Elizabeth Edgren, & Jim Sorenson), and gives special thanks to Kathleen McCaughey, SHHA board VP for obtaining the memories from Allison Johnson Kane, and Guy Jackson. This section concludes with a thank you to all past volunteers who have kept the GRIT going noting that the first issue in the online GRIT archive is May 1979, and encourages folks to review back issues. The last article in the issue is a reminder that there are no fireworks allowed in Sandia Heights with a photo of a fire near Little Cloud Park in Sandia Heights that occurred May 2025.
